Euro Technology
What is Euro Technology?
Euro Technology is a unique construction method which creates a high-quality wood door that can outlast and outperform similar products on the market. This is ideal for people who want the look and feel of a true wood door, but don’t want the upkeep, or live in a climate with punishing weather. Our doors are manufactured in Poland and distributed from our warehouse in Illinois near Chicago. We know rough weather and we built a door that can handle it while looking elegant.
Design Features for Stile and Rail Doors
We have redesigned every element of the stile and rail construction to improve the long-term performance of these classic designs.
- LVL Stiles and Rails: LVL construction is a component made of layers of wood glued together in alternating grain directions to produce an object which is stronger than a single piece of wood of comparable size. Wood always wants to bend when there is a change in temp or humidity. With LVL construction, each layer bends in an opposite direction, balancing each other out and keeping the whole structure straight. The more layers you have, the more stable the door becomes. Many manufacturers use LVL construction, but very few use as many layers as us and almost none make their layers from real mahogany. Mahogany is not only beautiful, it is also very strong, which is why we are so proud of our stile and rail construction.
- Extra Thick Stiles and Rails: The thicker the stile and rail is, the stronger and more warp-resistant the door becomes, particularly when paired with our LVL construction. Typical doors are 1-3/4″ thick, luxury doors are an average thickness of 2-1/4″ thick, our doors are 2-3/4″ thick, which makes them much stronger than most doors on the market.
- Foam core panel: The core of the door panel is made of a rigid polystyrene foam core which provides excellent insulation. Our doors surpass energy star rating requirements. It also prevents condensation from forming on the interior side of the door during cold winters.
- Fixed panel: Traditional wood doors have floating panels, they aren’t attached to the stile or rail so they have room to expand and contract without damaging the door. This leaves a small gap around the panel where wind and water can seep in during sever weather. Euro Tech panels are so stable that they can be sealed in place which eliminates this problem. We can also create much larger panels than would be possible with traditional wood construction, allowing for a larger range of style options.
- Aluminum Barrier: Our panels are made with a sandwich construction which includes a thin layer of aluminum that acts as a moisture barrier and protects the core of the door.
- Wood Veneer: We have carefully selected our veneers to be the prefect thickness. Veneers which are very thin adhere well and are less prone to delaminating, but they don’t leave enough material for the door to be refinished. Veneers which are too thick, are very forgiving for refinishing, but can peel away because they have their own movement. Our veneers are thin enough to move with the door, but thick enough to allow for refinishing if needed. That said, with proper maintenance, a door should last over a decade before needing to be refinished.
- 2K Finish: Our doors come with the highest-quality finish in the industry, providing top-of-the-line protection from weather and sun. The finish was carefully formulated for both superior elasticity and hardness, so it can move with the wood while offering exceptional durability. It also has a built-in UV inhibitor. It’s applied in 3 layers with special equipment that’s specifically designed for our unique formula. It is tested under the most sever conditions, including marine and desert climates. It also has a lipid barrier so the finish doesn’t absorb oils from people’s hands which would soften and damage the finish.
- Beveling: There is a small V groove at each joint of the stiles and rails. Under normal conditions, the stiles and rails grind together damaging the finish and compromising the seal. This allows water to penetrate the wood and start weathering the door. The v grooves prevent the friction, keeping the finish intact and the door protected.
Design Features for Flush Doors
Like our stile and rail doors, they feature LVL stiles and rails, extra thick construction, aluminum barrier, a high density foam core, and a K2 finish along with the following:
- Flush Construction: We put a lot of effort into our design to make a highly stable flush door that is far superior to what is on the market. Flush doors have a single even surface which creates a sleek, modern look. However, without the typical stiles and rails for strength, flush doors are left prone to warping and bowing.
- Steel Reinforced Stiles: These doors have the same LVL construction, but they are further enforced with U shaped steel that runs the entire height of the door. Our flush doors are so warp-resistant that we don’t require multipoint locking mechanisms unless the door surpasses 8ft in height.
- Specialty and oversized doors: We offer a wide range of sizes and features including pivot hinges, concealed hinges, aluminum cladding and more. Our flush doors are versatile and can create the perfect entrance for any modern project.
Benefits of Euro Technology
- Durability: Everything about our Euro Tech construction is deigned to make our doors more stable. Traditional wood doors are constantly expanding and contracting in reaction to changes in temperature and humidity. This movement causes cracking, warping, and alignment problems that require frequent maintenance and repairs. Doors with Euro Technology avoid these issues, which makes them much more durable.
- Minimal Maintenance: The upkeep for a door with Euro tech is similar to a fiberglass door, regular UV protection and occasional adjustments. Read our Maintenance instructions for more details.
- Insulation: Doors with Euro Technology surpass Energy Star rating requirements. They have extra thick stiles and rails and foam core panels, which keeps interior temperatures comfortable regardless of exterior temps.
- Suitable for Arid and Cold Climates: Wood cracks when humidity levels are low. Customers in the Southwest and high elevations will always experience arid conditions, but even the Midwest gets dry enough in the winter to crack a traditional wood door. Euro Tech is a great option for these climates.
- Modern Aesthetic: Euro construction excels with modern designs. Typically, flush doors are more prone to warping, but the Euro Construction prevents this and we have many designs to choose from.
- Oversized Designs: Euro Tech Construction makes a door highly warp-resistant. We can build doors up to 42″ x 96″ without a multipoint locking mechanism.
