Hinges

Hinges

Our doors are available with several types of hinges. Its important to understand the differences of each and their physical limitations. The details below will help you determine the best hinge for your project.

Standard Hinge: Heavy-Duty, Ball Bearing Hinges

  • 4″ x 4″
  • Solid Brass
  • Square corner
  • Standard finish: Flat Black
  • The hinge finish does not have to match the lockset hardware, they are separate design elements. We recommend choosing a hinge finish which is similar to the door color. The lockset hardware can be designed to blend in or stand out depending on the look you are trying to achieve.
  • Sagging is prevented by a strong screw and proper installation. Increasing the size of the hinge won’t increase the strength. We recommend using a 3″ wood screw for superior strength.
  • Maximum slab width 42″
  • A 80″ tall door comes with 3 hinges. 96″ tall doors come with 4 hinges.

Concealed Hinges

These are designed for a super clean, modern look, but the are also exceptionally strong. They are mortised into the door slab and the frame, which means they are not visible from the interior side of the door. This is ideal for architecture which is seeking a sleek, minimal look.

  • Tectus TE 640 3D
  • Solid stainless steel construction
  • Adjustable by 1/4″ in every direction
  • Full 180 degree range of movement
  • The door frame needs to be thicker to accommodate their construction. The unit size will be around 3-7/8″ wider and 3-5/8″ taller than the slab size.
  • Since they require a thicker frame, we can’t install concealed hinges on an in-stock door. All doors with concealed hinges will always be custom.
  • Maximum slab width of 48″
  • An 80″ tall door comes with 2 hinges. 96″ tall door come with 3 hinges

Pivot Hinge

Pivot hinges are offset to create the illusion of a floating slab. It’s a design which was popularized in moderate climates, but we have modified the design to be suitable for all four seasons. We have selected the highest-quality pivot hinge on the market which is specially engineered for superior strength and performance.

  • FritsJurgens System M32 Plus
  • Solid steel construction
  • Vertically adjustable
  • Soft open
  • Require a larger frame to support their construction. The unit size is 3-3/4″ wider and 3-1/2″ taller to the slab size.
  • The offset hinge means that the usable opening is smaller than the door width. For example, a 48″ wide pivot door typically has a usable opening of 36″ and a 60″ wide door typically has a usable opening of 42″. The specific location of the hinge is calculated based on the width and height of the slab. If the customer is seeking a large door specifically for a larger opening, they might want to consider a concealed hinge door. This is also why we don’t offer pivot doors smaller than 48″ wide.
  • Pivot doors are always custom, we don’t carry any in-stock.
  • Pivot doors must be paired with a flat ADA threshold to function properly. Flat thresholds are inherently less weather-proof than an adjustable threshold. You could experience drafts or leaking during inclement weather. Pivot doors must be equipped with a significant overhang and drainage system to minimize this risk.
  • Minimum slab dimensions are 48″ x 80″
  • Maximum slab dimensions are 60″ x 120″
